Cheers to the year ahead! Plans seem to slow down in January, and we wanted to put together weekend ideas to enjoy mid-winter around Omaha!
Lunch, Art, and an Afternoon Happy Hour
Start your day at Saffron Urban Indian Kitchen in Aksarben. They have a fantastic lunch special that is sure to hit the spot.
Next, head over to the Joslyn Art Museum. Take some time to explore the newly renovated space—it’s a beautiful spot, and the best part? It’s free to visit!
Wrap up the afternoon by checking out The Platypus Bar in Little Bohemia. They’ve partnered with Block16, so you’re in for a treat. Grab a bite and enjoy the fun vibe.
Space Museum and Lunch in Ashland
Kick off your day at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum (they open at 9am). It’s full of fascinating exhibits, perfect for a morning adventure.
Then make your way to Ashland for lunch. The main street offers a variety of restaurants, so you’ll have no trouble finding a great place to eat and can enjoy some shopping after. Fariner Bakery is a popular stop, as well as the Glacial Till and Cider House Tasting Room.
Volunteer and Pickleball
Spend your day volunteering somewhere. Siena Francis House is always looking for various volunteers, or you can find more opportunities here.
Afterwards, head over to Smash Park for some pickleball fun and food.
Coffee, Breakfast, and the Zoo
Fuel up on breakfast and coffee from Archetype. Their Little Bohemia location also offers breakfast options from Know Good that is a must try.
Then make your way to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. The aquarium, jungle, and desert dome are nice getaways during the cold months.
Dinner and a Show
Grab dinner downtown. Whether you are looking for something classic like M’s Pub, Blue Sushi, Spaghetti Works, or want to try something newer Memoir, Gather, or Clio, the Old Market has tons of great options.
Afterward, catch a show at The Rose Theater or one of the many performances at Omaha Performing Arts. They have tons of shows lined up all winter long.
Donuts and an Indoor Playground
If you’ve got little ones in tow, grab some donuts from LaMar’s Donuts and Coffee.
Then head over to Playful Pines, an indoor playground in West Omaha. They offer open play, so your kids can run wild while you enjoy some downtime.
Coffee Flights and iSmash
Enjoy a coffee and toast flight at Zen Coffee Company.
After you’re fully caffeinated, head to iSmash Omaha where you can let loose and smash items in a controlled environment.
Art and Pizza
Sign up for one of Hot Shops art classes or visit The Union for one of their workshops or events. Both offer a variety of opportunities to get creative and try something new.
After you’re done getting creative head over to Dolomiti Pizzeria for some delicious wood fired pizza.
Ski-ing and a Dinner
Yes, you can go skiing just 20 minutes outside of Omaha! Head to Mt. Crescent Ski Area for skiing, snowboarding, and even sledding. Rentals and lessons are available if you are new to the slopes.
After all that outdoor fun, finish the day with a meal at one of the local restaurants in Crescent, Iowa. The Pink Poodle Steakhouse is famous for its prime rib, or head to Henry’s Diner for a wide variety of comfort food, from chicken dinners to Mexican cuisine.
We hope you find time to enjoy all that Omaha has to offer this winter season!
