Omaha’s art scene is more vibrant than you might think! From bold street murals to local galleries, the Omaha metro is home to a thriving creative community. We’ve rounded up amazing organizations supporting local artists through galleries, education, murals, and public art displays. 

Local Artists, Local Art (LALA): LALA is dedicated to building a more diverse, resilient, and thriving Omaha arts sector. With a goal to transform Omaha into a nationally recognized arts mecca, where local visual artists can earn a sustainable living through the support of both public and private collectors. Learn more about their programs and their work around the city here. Check out this event they are hosting at Millwork Commons on February 28th from 5 to 7. Enjoy charcuterie and wine from the amazing chefs at Heirloom and even have a chance to purchase local art! 

The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts: The Bemis is located downtown in the Old Market. They offer free admission for their exhibitions and public programs. They have been providing artists from all over with a space and resources to create new work through their residency program. The Bemis hosts monthly events for the public from tours to talks to even performances you can check them out here.  

Hot Shops Art Center: Home to over 90 working artists in more than 50 studios. From glass, bronze sculptures, acrylic, oil, and charcoal paintings, and silversmith jewelry their resident artists cover a lot of mediums. It’s the perfect place to discover new works of art and connect with local artists.  

BFF Omaha: BFF Omaha has been hosting First Friday art walks since 2012. Visit Benson on the First Friday of every month to check out annual public art projects, local galleries (Pet Shop Gallery, Mamo, BFF Gallery), and artists markets. They have something for everyone at their First Fridays.  

Main Street Studios and Gallery: Located in Elkhorn, it is a local studio and art gallery featuring work from several local artists. They are open daily, and have pieces available to buy, browse, purchase something custom for your space. 

Gallery 1516: Gallery 1516 showcasing works from Nebraska and regional artists. Their goal is to celebrate local artists, highlight art’s value in the community, and inspire young people to appreciate its role in society. Through fundraising and community engagement, they support the arts without charging commission fees to artists. Visit the gallery during one of their Sunday music series or check out an upcoming exhibition for popular Nebraska local artist Mary Zicafoose. 

The Joslyn: A true gem in Omaha, the Joslyn Museum offers free admission to explore over 12,000 objects representing 5,000 years of global culture. Coming this June, they will feature a special exhibit, Made in the Plains which will feature work from 20 talented local artists from Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
