We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog post…
This week, one of our regular blog writers was wrapping up her post before publishing. Then, as it does, life happened and personal tragedy struck. It would have been easy for us to have some “canned,” pre-written blog post to put up for your reading pleasure – but that’s not how we do things. We are authentic, real and roll with the punches.
Out of respect to my colleague and friend, it is not my place to provide you with the details. I realize that some of you would like me to elaborate, but some things should remain private. I do feel comfortable sharing that someone in our leadership team suddenly lost a very close family member. That is enough. They now need time to grieve, make arrangements and attempt to heal.
So, we found ourselves asking – what do we do with this blog? Well… we do what’s right and tell you it wasn’t a priority to finish a beautifully photographed, perfectly punctuated blog. We need to be honest with you. Life happens to us in a real, sometimes ugly, sometimes terribly sad way. And when it does, we hold each other close, support each other and try to move on. THAT is real.
Our whole company was going to meet this week to talk about our culture and goals. We were going to discuss what we achieved, what we didn’t achieve and where we are going for the next year. When tragedy struck one of our team leaders, in good faith, we knew the meeting must be canceled. We’d be missing one of the key players and probably have a lot of tears (we still will). We simply knew it wasn’t right to meet without her. And after all, one of our values is to Think Like A Business and Act Like A Family. So, we’ve closed up shop on a beautifully-buttoned up blog post that creatively ties together lifestyles, real estate, design, and all things cool, great and fun, to get real for a minute and take care of our family.
Do me a favor and take a minute to reach out to your family. For me, my actual family is quite small, so it also includes my friends. I’m going to be with them over the next few days and will be sappy and tell them how much they mean to me. I ask you to do the same. If you can, call your mom and tell her you love her. Call your dad and thank him for everything he has done for you. Call your best friend to say something ridiculous that will make you both laugh until you cry. Life truly is short. Cherish every minute and every person.
