Realtor Liz Fossenbarger is back and so is her fashion forward fabulousness! Read on for her savvy approach to fulfilling a (slight) shopping addiction, right here in Omaha.

I’d like to start with a confession… I have a slight shopping problem. And by slight I mean rather large. I am, by definition, an emotional shopper. I shop when I’m happy, I shop when I’m anxious and I shop when I’m sad. So, basically if I’m feeling any sort of a feeling, I shop.

Obviously, this habit of mine has grown over the years and with it came an appreciation for iconic brands. Trust, though, that I’m not snooty – everyone knows Target is one of the biggest contributors to my closet. But I seem to have theses crushes on Chanel, Michael Kors and Prada that I just can’t get over. Clearly, my love affair has little concern that perhaps my bank account cannot sustain a long-term relationship. The solution… letting someone else’s loss be my new favorite gain.

Vintage is not for everyone. But to me it’s everything. I get the whole “But someone else has already worn it!” and “It might have bad energy…” excuses. But have you ever thought that maybe the person who previously owned it was the definition of fabulous? Maybe they wore the item on the best day of their life. And maybe, just maybe, a little of that fabulousness will now get passed on to you!

I recently convinced myself that I LITERALLY could not go one more day without a pair of Chanel earrings… I was obsessed. I turned to Google, obviously, which led me to a consignment site. I saw the earrings and it was love at first sight. This vintage purchase was only made possible by some wonderful person who had paid a lot of money, loved the earrings like I now did, and then decided to consign them, so some lucky person (me!) could now afford them at a much depreciated price. It’s really a beautiful thing if you think about it. And that night, as I lay in bed thinking of all the outfits that I would wear with my new earrings another thought struck me. In some parallel fashion universe, I was now tied to the original owner of these earrings. Where her story left off, mine would now pick up.

So, in case you’re wondering where one might go in Omaha to start their vintage collection, I offer you two of my tried and true favorites:

Pretty in Patina… walking into this store will literally take your breath away. Located in the heart of downtown Omaha, it exudes everything that makes vintage amazing… there is fur, there is glitter and there is Prada. You could look for hours and still not see everything. There are one-of-a-kind pieces and there are pieces that a girl from Omaha, Nebraska could only imagine in her East Coast dreams. Vintage doesn’t just connect people, it connects you to a different time and place.

And what kind of real estate agent would I be if I didn’t offer you a vintage home décor option!

I introduce to you Posh Peacock. I always give credit where it’s due and all of this credit must go to my mother. She fell hard for Posh Peacock and I don’t blame her. This consignment store offers pieces that are classic and timeless. Similar to old houses, the furniture in this store is made from a different kind of stock. The phrase “they don’t build things like they used to” is the anthem of this store. I truly love and appreciate the notion that whatever I buy from Posh Peacock, I don’t have to share. No one else will own my one-of-a-kind piece (because that’s almost as embarrassing as when you wear the same outfit as someone… been there).

Now I’ll give you one guess what goes perfectly with shopping for vintage clothing and home décor… vintage house shopping!!! Let me know if you’d like your very own personal shopper and tell me about your favorite vintage spots in Omaha!
